Keeping El Paso County Clean

Zero tolerance for Illegal Dumping.

Keeping El Paso County Clean:

Sheriff Oscar Ugarte is listening to the concerns of El Paso County residents, and one issue that continues to surface—particularly in our rural communities—is illegal dumping. Piles of debris, furniture, tires, and trash not only damage the environment but also create safety hazards, attract crime, and diminish the quality of life for residents.

Under Sheriff Ugarte’s leadership, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has made it clear: illegal dumping will not be tolerated. The Sheriff’s Office has increased patrols in known dumping hotspots and works closely with the Environmental Enforcement team, county officials, and local partners to identify and arrest offenders. Everyone caught illegally dumping is taken to jail and faces criminal charges.

Beyond enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office is focused on community awareness and prevention. Deputies are engaging with residents to report dumping activity, encouraging the use of county waste disposal sites, and partnering with community organizations for cleanup efforts and education campaigns. These combined efforts are already making an impact in reducing dumping across rural and unincorporated areas.

Sheriff Ugarte remains committed to preserving the beauty of El Paso County. By holding offenders accountable, strengthening community partnerships, and empowering residents to take pride in their surroundings, the Sheriff’s Office is working to ensure a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant county for generations to come.
