Protecting Animals, Enforcing Accountability
Standing up for the voiceless.
Protecting Animals, Enforcing Accountability:
Sheriff Oscar Ugarte is committed to protecting the welfare of animals across El Paso County. Acts of cruelty, neglect, or abandonment are not only unacceptable—they are crimes that will be fully investigated and prosecuted.

Under Sheriff Ugarte’s leadership, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office continues to strengthen partnerships with the County's Animal Welfare Department, veterinary professionals, and rescue organizations to ensure swift response and proper care for animals in need. Deputies work diligently to investigate reports, collect evidence, and bring justice to those responsible for mistreatment.

Beyond enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office is also focused on prevention through education and awareness. Deputies and community partners promote responsible pet ownership, humane treatment, and the importance of reporting abuse. Together, these efforts help reduce cruelty cases and ensure that animals receive the protection and compassion they deserve.

Sheriff Ugarte believes that safeguarding the well-being of animals is an essential part of keeping El Paso County safe, humane, and just—for every living being.
