Sheriff's Office Civilian Social Services Unit

Creating a new unit within the department to better serve our community.

Explaining the Civilian Social Services Unit:

The establishment of the Civilian Social Services Unit within the Sheriff's Office is a dedicated initiative to addressing pressing social issues within our community. Our primary focus areas include mental health, homelessness, food insecurity, and supporting troubled youth. Through proactive outreach, connecting individuals to assistance programs, conducting follow-ups after law enforcement encounters, and serving as a reliable support system, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our fellow community members.

At the heart of our mission is the belief that everyone deserves access to the resources and support necessary for their well-being and success, regardless of their background or circumstances. By working collaboratively with local agencies, organizations, and community members, we can create a caring network that supports those in need and helps build a stronger, more inclusive community.

Brief overview of what the Civilian Social Services Unit aims to accomplish:

Proactive Outreach: We will actively engage with individuals who may be facing mental health challenges, experiencing homelessness, struggling with food insecurity, or are at risk due to troubled circumstances. Our team will contact them, ensuring they know they are not alone, and provide information about available assistance programs.

Linking to Programs for Assistance: We understand the importance of connecting individuals with the right resources. We will work diligently to identify and collaborate with existing programs and services that address mental health, homelessness, food insecurity, and youth related issues. By linking those in need to these vital resources, we can help foster stability and growth.

Follow-ups after Law Enforcement Encounters:
Recognizing that certain encounters with law enforcement can be distressing; we will conduct follow-ups with individuals involved. We aim to provide support, listen to their concerns and guide them toward the appropriate resources to address any underlying issues that may have contributed to the encounter.

Support System: We want to be a dependable and compassionate short-term support system for individuals facing difficult circumstances. Our dedicated team members will offer a nonjudgmental space for people to share their challenges, concerns, and aspirations. We will strive to foster a sense of belonging and provide guidance to help individuals navigate their path toward a brighter future.

Sharing Information with Local Agencies: Collaboration is critical to our success. We will actively share information, experiences, and insights gained through our interactions with individuals in need with relevant local agencies and organizations. By doing so, we can collectively enhance the effectiveness of support services and develop a more comprehensive approach to tackling social issues in our community.
